Governor Seeks Report From Chief Secy & VC On Blackout During President’s Speech

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal today sought a report in connection with the power blackout during President Droupadi Murmu’s address at the convocation of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University at Baripada on May 6.

The Governor requested that Santosh Tripathy, the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo University, and Chief Secretary PK Jena submit their reports within seven days.

On May 6, while President Murmu was delivering the convocation address in the state-run university’s auditorium, the power went off for around nine minutes between 11.56 and 12.05.

The President’s address was unabated despite the power outage and continued her speech with the aid of the weak light emanating from the podium.

According to sources, the university’s power supply was intact because the air conditioners and fans were working. But the lights abruptly went out as the President was speaking.
