Heavy Rains To Lash Odisha Under Influence Of Depression: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy downpour across the State today and tomorrow under the influence of the Depression and anticipated Deep Depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The districts of Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj are likely to face heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls (>20cm) today i.e. August 19.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, and Jajpur today (August 19) and over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, and Bolangir tomorrow (August 20).

It is likely to trigger flash flood/water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field, mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas. There is possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapsed of vulnerable kutcha houses.

There may be water logging in underpass road and occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas. It may also lead to significant rise in water level of rivers.

The IMD has advised to keep arrangement for drainage of excess water, avoid movement in affected areas, stay in a safe place, postpone fertilizer/chemicals application in agricultural field, and keep livestock in a safe place.

Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Rayagada, Gajapati, Nawarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Puri today (August 19) and over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Angul, Boudh, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Dhenkanal, and Nawarangpur tomorrow (August 20).
