1 Dead, 5 Swept Away As Boat Capsizes in Patali River Near Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: A small boat carrying five passengers, including two minors, capsized in the Patali River in Odisha’s Koraput. One woman, identified as 23-year-old Lalmani Sisa, tragically lost her life in the accident.

The victims, all residents of Tansing village in Nandapur Block, had attended a wedding in Badela village and were returning home when their country boat overturned. The cause of the capsize is yet to be officially determined.

Reacting swiftly, the Nandapur fire services and ODRAF teams launched a rescue operation. They managed to recover Lalmani Sisa’s body shortly after the incident. The remaining four passengers, including Sasirekha Alarb (24), Nabina Alarb (25), and the two minors, remain missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with teams scouring the river for any sign of the survivors.

“We are working tirelessly to locate the missing persons,” said a spokesperson for the ODRAF. “Our divers are actively searching underwater, while other teams are patrolling the riverbanks.”

The news of the accident has cast a pall over the Tansing village, with residents praying for the safe return of the missing individuals. Local authorities have assured swift updates as the rescue operation progresses.
