Policeman Injured In Attack By Proclaimed Offender’s Family In Balasore

Soro: A police team was attacked by the family members of a proclaimed offender in Purushottampur village of Anantapur panchayat, Balasore district, Odisha.

The accused’s wife, Manjulata Mallick (55), and her daughter, Priyanka Priyadarshini Mallick (25), have been arrested in connection with the assault.

The proclaimed offender, Bansidhar Mallick, had been on the run since 2009. Acting on a tip-off that he was present at his residence, the police team conducted a raid to apprehend him.

However, the operation turned violent when Bansidhar’s wife and daughter launched an attack on the police, preventing the arrest.

During the altercation, Constable Purnachandra Singh sustained serious injuries, including a fractured hand. The family even managed to seize the mobile phone of the Anantapur outpost in-charge and successfully helped Bansidhar evade arrest by overpowering the officers on the scene.

Three other individuals involved in the attack managed to escape the police pursuit. A case (No-503/2023) has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway. The arrested individuals, Manjulata and Priyanka, were produced before a local court later in the day.
