Ex-Gratia Compensation Announced for Victims of Odisha Train Accident

New Delhi: In the wake of the unfortunate train accident in Odisha, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced ex-gratia compensation to the victims and their families.

 

As the representative of Odisha in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Minister promptly rushed to the state and announced the compensation amounts.

A sum of Rs 10 lakhs will be provided as ex gratia in the unfortunate event of death, while Rs 2 lakhs will be allocated for those who suffered grievous injuries. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be given to individuals with minor injuries. The compensation aims to assist the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time.

The tragic accident occurred on Friday night near Bahanaga Station in Balasore when the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed after colliding with a freight train, resulting in at least 50 deaths and over 300 injuries.
