BCCI Loses Verified Tick on X After Changing Display Picture to Indian Flag

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently lost its verified blue tick on X (formerly Twitter) after changing its display picture to the Indian flag. This was in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which calls for citizens to display the Indian flag on their social media profiles ahead of India’s 77th Independence Day.

BCCI Loses Verified Blue Tick on X After Changing Display Picture to Indian Flag

X’s policy mandates that verified accounts use real names and display authentic photographs. The BCCI’s account was initially verified under the name “BCCI” with the Indian cricket team logo as its profile picture. However, when the display picture was changed to the Indian tricolour, the account was deactivated.

X’s revised criteria now require a review of the BCCI’s profile to ensure it meets all the criteria for the blue tick to be reinstated. Interestingly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also changed his profile picture to the Indian tricolour as part of the campaign, but his grey tick, denoting verification, remained intact.

The change in X’s verification policy followed Elon Musk’s acquisition, with the updated guidelines granting gold ticks to certified or official entities. The BCCI, being an autonomous institution, received a gold tick instead of the traditional blue tick.
