BCCI Announces Squad for West Indies T20Is; Yashaswi Jaiswal & Tilak Varma Get Maiden Call-Up

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the West Indies. This selection sees the resting of senior players such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, providing opportunities to promising young stars. Notably, Mumbai Indians’ left-handed batter, Tilak Varma, who impressed in the IPL 2023, has received his first national call-up. Yashasvi Jaiswal, the Orange Cap winner in IPL 2023, has also made the cut.

The pace bowling attack for the series will consist of young talents including Umran Malik, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, and Arshdeep Singh. The specialist spinners chosen are Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, and Kuldeep Yadav, with Axar Patel providing the all-round option.

The Indian squad features two wicket-keepers, namely Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan. Additionally, the lineup includes the rising stars Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, both of whom have made significant strides in the past year and a half. Hardik Pandya will take on the captaincy duties for the series.

The T20I series will commence on August 3 and conclude on August 13. The Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba will host the first match, followed by games at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The final two T20Is will be held at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida, in the United States.
