Indian Cricket Team Faces Injury Setback Ahead of Asian Games

Mumbai: The Indian cricket team gearing up for the upcoming Asian Games in Hangzhou faces a potential setback as promising medium pacer Shivam Mavi has reportedly suffered an injury, casting doubt on his participation.

The exact nature of Mavi’s injury is not yet known, but the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) will make a decision on his participation following a thorough assessment by their medical team.

The Indian squad is set to convene in Bengaluru for a two-week training camp led by VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Sairaj Bahutule and Munish Bali have been named as the bowling and fielding coaches for the team, which will be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad.

The Indian women’s team, having recently secured a silver medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, is also set to participate in the Asian Games. Hrishikesh Kanitkar, a former India all-rounder, will serve as the interim head coach for the women’s team.

The women’s cricket competition at the Asian Games is scheduled from September 19 to 28, while the men’s competition will run from September 28 to October 8. Both competitions will feature the T20 format.
