IPL Franchises Announce Full List Of Retained & Released Players

Mumbai: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises on Tuesday announced their full list of retained and released players after the deadline for retention and trading ended.

The list of retained and released players for IPL 2023 was a mix of obvious choices and surprise omissions.

Franchises were active over the last few days, making good use of the trading window. The teams were asked to submit their full list of retained players ahead of the mini-auction, scheduled for December, before 5 pm IST on November 15. Each team will have an additional Rs 5 crore apart from their Rs 90 crore salary cap for the auction, which will reportedly be held on December 16 in Kochi.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the busiest in the trading window, securing the services of India all-rounder Shardul Thakur from Delhi Capitals and New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson and Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz from defending champions Gujarat Titans. KKR also traded out Aman Khan to Delhi Capitals.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians announced a huge decision on Tuesday as Kieron Pollard retired from IPL. The former West Indies captain, who spent 12 highly-successful years with the 5-time champions, will be their batting coach in IPL 2023. Pollard was retained for Rs 6 crore ahead of the last season’s mega auction but his ordinary showing with both bat and ball forced the decision. MI also traded in Jason Behrendorff, the Australian left-arm pacer from Royal Challengers Bangalore.

On the contrary, the likes of Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Rajasthan Royals kept mum in the trading window.

Punjab Kings were at it again as they sacked Mayank Agarwal as captain and handed over the responsibility to senior batter Shikhar Dhawan, who will now work with head coach Trevor Bayliss.
