Musheer Khan Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s 29-Yr-Old Record With Hundred in Ranji Trophy Final

Mumbai: Mumbai’s young batting prodigy Musheer Khan (19) etched his name in history books on Tuesday, scoring a crucial century in the Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium. This knock not only propelled Mumbai to a commanding position but also saw him surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the youngest Mumbai batsman to score a century in a Ranji Trophy final.

Khan’s patient knock of 100 runs in 255 balls came in Mumbai’s second innings after a shaky start in the first. He stitched up crucial partnerships with skipper Ajinkya Rahane (73) and Shreyas Iyer (95) to help Mumbai build a significant lead.

Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar himself was present in the stands, witnessing the young talent break his 29-year-old record.

Mumbai’s batting woes in the first innings, where they were bundled out for a meagre 224 runs, seem like a distant memory now. The second innings saw a complete turnaround, with Rahane leading the charge on Day 2. Khan and Iyer took over the mantle on Day 3, punishing the Vidarbha bowlers with their assured strokeplay.

At the time of writing this report, Mumbai are in a commanding position with a score of 396/8 after 123 overs. Khan (136 off 326) and Iyer (95 off 111) propelled Mumbai’s lead to a mammoth 515 runs. With the way things are going, Mumbai seem well on their way to clinching the Ranji Trophy title.
