Shreyas Iyer Likely to Miss Remainder of England Tests Due to Injury: Reports

Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the final three Tests against England due to a recurring back and groin discomfort, casting a shadow over India’s batting line-up.

According to reports, Iyer experienced stiffness in his back and pain in his groin while playing, prompting the team management to send him for further evaluation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. This news comes after concerns over his fitness surfaced with his equipment being sent directly to his home instead of Rajkot, the venue for the third Test.

“He feels pain in his groin while playing forward defence,” The Indian Express reported. “He will head to NCA later.”

Iyer’s recent performances haven’t been stellar, scoring 35, 13, 27, and 29 across the first two Tests. The selection committee faces a crucial decision if Iyer is ruled out, needing to find a suitable replacement before announcing the squad for the remaining matches on Friday.

With the series hanging in the balance, Iyer’s absence could leave a significant gap in India’s batting, adding another layer of intrigue to the highly anticipated Tests.
