X Rolls Out Audio and Video Calling, Taking on WhatsApp

In a move to compete with Meta-owned WhatsApp, Elon Musk-owned X Corp, has introduced audio and video call support to its app. Users have begun receiving notifications upon opening the platform, announcing the arrival of the new feature.

A new toggle, labelled “Enable audio and video calling,” can be found within the app’s settings. Users can activate the feature and choose with whom they wish to make audio and video calls.

X Corp has not yet made an official announcement regarding the launch but teased users with a cryptic message reading, “ready for it…?” shortly before the new feature became accessible.

The latest feature permits users to make audio and video calls to individuals in their contact list, those they follow, verified users, or any combination of these three options.

X Corp CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed last month that video calls were in the pipeline, as part of their transformation into an all-encompassing app. She also mentioned that users would soon be able to make video calls without disclosing their phone numbers to anyone on the platform.
