3 Kg Elephant Tusks Seized In Sundargarh, 11 Arrested

Rourkela: Elephant tusks weighing around 3 Kg were seized by the forest officials in the Rourkela forest division of Sundargarh district. Eleven persons involved in this smuggling racket of elephant tusks were arrested. They were trying to smuggle the tusks out of Odisha.

Acting on intelligence reports that some people had got together in the house of poacher in Banagaon village under Rourkela forest division to smuggle the elephant tusks, a special team of the forest department raided the spot and arrested the accused persons on Thursday.

Forest officials seized two elephant tusks weighing around 3 kg from the possession of the arrested persons.

An investigation is underway to unearth the other members of this elephant tusk smuggling racket as well as the prospective buyers.
