FIR Lodged Against Union Minister Shantanu Thakur by Aunt Over ‘Forcible Trespassing’

Kolkata: The West Bengal Police has registered an FIR against Union Minister Shantanu Thakur following a complaint filed by Mamata Bala Thakur, a TMC MP and his aunt.

The complaint alleges that the minister attempted to unlawfully take possession of a property previously inhabited by the revered community figure, Binapani Devi, affectionately known as ‘Boroma’.

Shantanu Thakur has refuted the accusations, asserting his legal right as the heir to the property and claiming that Mamata Bala Thakur had already occupied it against his rights.

A senior police official from Gaighata confirmed the registration of an FIR against Shantanu Thakur under various sections, including those related to forcible trespassing, based on Mamata Bala Thakur’s complaint. The incident, which occurred in the Matua-majority Thakurnagar area of West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, resulted in confrontations between supporters of both leaders.

The dispute centres on a house where Binapani Devi resided until her passing five years ago. Shantanu Thakur, her grandson, and Mamata Bala Thakur, her daughter-in-law, are at odds over its control. Tensions escalated when Shantanu Thakur and his supporters purportedly attempted to seize the property, currently occupied by Mamata Bala Thakur.
