Newborn Sold Off by Parents Rescued in Jajpur District

Bhubaneswar: A newborn allegedly sold off by his parents was rescued by Childline authorities in Jajpur district.

According to reports, Silu Jena and his wife Sanju of Saundi village under the Dasarathpur block in Jajpur district were blessed with a baby boy on Monday. For some reason, the couple allegedly sold off the newborn.

The villagers grew suspicious when they did not find the newborn with the couple, who also could not give any satisfactory reply regarding the missing child.

Suspecting that the couple may have sold off the newborn, the villagers informed the Childline authorities.

Childline workers rescued the newborn with the help of the local police on Tuesday.

Police meanwhile detained the couple for interrogation to determine the reason for which they sold their newborn baby. The newborn was produced before the Jajpur District Child Welfare Committee. Childline authorities are now taking care of the rescued child.
