ECoR Becomes 1st Railway Zone to Load 250 Million Tonne Freight in a Year

Bhubaneswar: Creating a new record for the Indian Railways, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) loaded 250 million tonnes of freight in 2023-24 financial year.

The ECoR loaded this 250 million tonnes of freight from April 1, 2023 to March 25, 2024, stated a statement of the Ministry of Railways.

With this, the ECoR became the first railway zone in the country to cross the milestone of 200 million tonnes of freight loading for the fifth times in a row. It has become the first railway zone in the country to load 250 million tonnes of freight in a single financial year, added the Ministry.

During 2023-24 financial year, The ECoR has loaded 149.50 million tonnes (MT) of coal, 12.9 MT of raw materials to steel plants, 20.15 MT of steel & slag, 37.4 MT of iron ore, 1.21 MT of cement, 3.16 MT of food grains, 6.4 MT of fertilizers, 3 MT of mineral oil, 23.27 MT of freight in containers and other goods. This is 6 per cent more than the corresponding period of last year.

All the three Divisions of ECoR have performed much better in terms of freight loading this year in comparison to their figures in last year.

Khurda Road Division of ECoR loaded 156.17 million tonnes of freight, followed by 74.66 million tonnes by Waltair Division and 19.20 million tonnes by Sambalpur Division.
