Pune: Maharashtra police lodged a case against eight persons including two policemen for allegedly extorting Rs 4.98 lakh from a 19-year-old student. They extorted the money from the student by threatening to implicate him in a false drug case in Maharashtra’s Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Acting on the complaint registered by the student, police have arrested four persons in connection with the case. The accused include Sub-Inspector Hemant Gaikwad and Constable Sachin Shejwal as well as six others.
Finding that the said student was from a wealthy family, the two erring cops along with others planned to extort money from him. They called the student to a cafe, where they secretly placed a packet of drugs in his pocket.
Later the policemen searched the student and found the planted drug packet. They threatened to implicate him in a drug case and demanded Rs 20 lakh not to register a case.
The panicked student transferred Rs 4.98 lakh to the accused person’s account.
