Cheated in the name of collector Tina Dabi, asked for gift card on WhatsApp, accused arrested

A youth from Dungarpur has been detained for cheating people on WhatsApp using photos of Jaisalmar Collector Tina Dabi. The matter came to light when Sunita Chaudhary, Secretary (Rajasthan Administrative Services), Urban Improvement Trust, received a message asking for an Amazon gift card in the name of Tina Dabi.

The young man first entered the phone number on WhatsApp and posted the DP of IAS officer Tina Dabi. Pretending to be Dabi, he would then send messages to the people. At the same time, Amazon would ask for gift cards of different amounts. He used to send messages in English without any mistakes. Anyone who reads it feels that the message has been sent by Tina Dabi.

UIT secretary Sunita Choudhary saved that she received a message in English on Monday evening from the number of the fraudster. He was convinced that Tina Dabi had actually messaged him. I thought maybe the IAS would get some work from me. But the fraudster asked me for an Amazon gift card. Sunita said, ‘I called Tina to confirm. She was shocked to hear about this incident. Jaisalmer Collector immediately informed the SP about the matter as soon as he got information about the attempt to cheat in his name.

Jaisalmer SP traced the number with the help of cyber team. His location was traced to be Dungarpur district. After this, he informed the Durganpur SP about the matter and the youth was caught. The arrested youth is currently being interrogated. District Collector Tina Dabi appealed to the people to beware of messages coming from unknown numbers. She also said that they only have an official number.
