2 Workers Killed, 1 Injured in NALCO Expansion Project Mishap in Odisha

Koraput: At least two contractual workers lost their lives and another sustained critical injuries in an accident at the National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO) expansion project site in Damanjodi, Odisha on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when three workers were engaged in heavy iron-rod binding work. As per initial reports, the iron rods fell on them, trapping them underneath. While several other workers working nearby escaped unharmed, the trapped workers were rescued using a crane.

Sadly, one of the rescued workers succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The other worker, who sustained critical injuries, has been admitted to a local hospital and is undergoing treatment. Sources suggest he might be transferred to Visakhapatnam for further medical care.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. The incident has raised concerns about whether proper safety protocols (SOPs) were followed by the contractor and supervising officials during construction.

As of now, NALCO officials have not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Damanjodi Police and CISF officials have reached the site and begun investigations.
