3 Brown Sugar Smugglers Get 20 Years Jail Sentence

Bhubaneswar: Three brown sugar smugglers were convicted and sentenced to undergo 20 years’ rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Court of Second Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge in Bhubaneswar.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of these persons convicted for smuggling contraband brown sugar into Odisha. The convicts were identified as Debasish Behera, Prabir Kumar Singh, and Sk Kausar Ali. All of them are inhabitants of Odisha’s Balasore district.

They were nabbed by the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Police in 2020 while they were smuggling the narcotics to Odisha from neighbouring West Bengal. The STF intercepted them at Rasulgarh square in Bhubaneswar. Around 4.458 kg of brown sugar was seized from their possession.
