Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday seized 765 boxes of liquor hidden within a shipment of potatoes on its way to Bihar, where there is a complete prohibition on liquor in Bihar.
The UP STF team intercepted the liquor transporting truck in the Maharajpur police station area in Prayagraj.
The 765 boxes of liquor from the potato-loaded truck are estimated to be worth Rs 1 crore. The truck driver was arrested by the officials.
During interrogation, the arrested man disclosed that the liquor was being smuggled from Punjab to Bihar, where it fetches a very high price due to the state’s prohibition.
The police are investigating to find out the complete network of this liquor smuggling mafia.
