Arrested Wildlife Smuggler Escapes from Clutches of Baripada Police

Baripada: One of the three wildlife smugglers arrested along with four leopard skins from Chabhau in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday, managed to escape from the police custody on Monday morning.

The three accused were taken to the Baripada police station on Sunday for interrogation. One of them, Rupay Marandi complained of illness and was taken to the Baripada hospital. He was found missing around 3.00 to 4.00 am on Monday.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the fugitive. Baripada DFO has issued a show cause notice to the Officer in-charge of the Baripada police station in connection with this escape of arrested wildlife smuggler.

Forest department had formed four teams to arrest Rupay and the two other wildlife smugglers.
