Can They Even Win 40 Seats?: Mamata Banerjee Takes Scathing Aim at Congress

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fresh offensive against the Congress party, questioning its ability to secure even 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This sharpens the divide within the opposition’s INDIA bloc ahead of the crucial polls.

At a public gathering in Murshidabad, Banerjee expressed skepticism about Congress’ performance, stating, “Congress, I don’t know if you will win even 40 seats out of 300. Why such arrogance?” She challenged the party to demonstrate its strength by defeating the BJP in its strongholds like Varanasi and Allahabad.

Banerjee further criticized Rahul Gandhi’s recent interactions with beedi workers in Bengal, calling them a “photo shoot” and dismissing them as insincere gestures. She remarked, “Those who have never gone to a tea shop now show that they sit with beedi workers. They are all migratory birds.”

This attack comes after Banerjee declared her party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), would go solo in West Bengal during the Lok Sabha polls. Despite initial offers of two seats to Congress, TMC ultimately snubbed their demands due to the party’s low vote share in previous elections.
