Ranchi: With the support of 47 MLAs, the Champai Soren government in Jharkhand comfortably passed the trust vote in the Assembly on Monday afternoon. Twenty-nine votes were cast against the Champai Soren government.

With one MLA resigning in January 2024, the majority mark was 41 in the 81-member Assembly.

The ruling coalition led by Champai Soren comprises of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

Former Chief Minister Hemant Soren resigned late-night followed by his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, on January 31, in a money laundering case. Champai Soren was declared to succeed Hemant Soren. The long-time aide of Shibu Soren took oath as Chief Minister on Saturday with two deputies.

With permission from the court, Hemant Soren was present in the Assembly for the floor. The JMM leader denied the allegations made against him by the ED and termed them a BJP conspiracy. In his emotional speech in the Jharkhand Assembly, Hemant Soren hit out at the BJP-led central government, alleging a “slow-cooked” conspiracy to jail him. He accused the Raj Bhavan of involvement in this conspiracy. He dared the BJP and said, “Show me the proof and I will quit politics.”
