Gyanvapi Survey Stayed for 2 days by Supreme Court

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the ASI survey at the Gyanvapi mosque for two days. As per the order of a Varanasi court, a 30-member ASI team started the survey at the Gyanvapi mosque complex adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple on Monday.

A three-judge Supreme Court Bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud said the Varanasi court’s order would not be enforced until 5 pm on July 26.

The top court asked the Muslim side to approach the Allahabad High Court against the Varanasi court’s order.

“We are of the view that some breathing time should be granted to (the Muslim side) to file an appeal,” the CJI said.

On Monday, the Muslim side had approached the apex court against the Varanasi court’s order for an ASI survey.

Senior counsel H Ahmadi told the court that the ASI had already started digging the place. The Solicitor General told the court that not even a brick had moved and that only the survey was going on.
