India Beat Spain 2-1 To Clinch Second Straight Olympic Hockey Bronze

Paris: In a thrilling encounter that saw India come from behind to defeat Spain 2-1, the Indian men’s hockey team secured a historic back-to-back bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.

This triumph marks the first time India has achieved this feat since 1972, solidifying their position as a hockey powerhouse.

The match also served as a fitting farewell for legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, whose stellar performance under pressure was instrumental in India’s victory.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh emerged as the hero of the day, scoring both goals for India to overturn a one-goal deficit and secure the bronze medal. Spain had taken the lead through a penalty stroke converted by Marc Miralles.

The match was a tense affair, with both teams displaying exceptional skill and determination. India’s defence, led by the experienced Sreejesh, stood firm against relentless Spanish attacks, particularly in the final minutes of the game.

With this victory, India extends its record for the most Olympic hockey medals to 13.
