Manipur Video Horror: Seventh Accused Arrested

Imphal: A seventh accused was arrested in Manipur in connection with the horrific video of two women being paraded naked by a mob. This accused identified from the video clip was tracked down in the Thoubal district on Monday.

The incident captured in the video clip happened on May 4. It has drawn widespread condemnation from all quarters. It is alleged that the two women were gang-raped in a field.

The first arrest, in this case, was made on July 20 morning. The house of this 32-year-old man, identified as Huirem Heradas Singh, was torched by a group of women.

As per reports, fake news on social media led to this inhuman torture, gang rape, and murder in Manipur on May 4.

The husband of one of the women seen in the video is a former subedar in the Assam Regiment, who fought in the Kargil War. The war veteran languished that though he protected the country, he could not save his wife from being humiliated.

The horrific incident took place a day after violence erupted between the Meitei and Kuki tribes in Manipur, following the Meitei’s demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status. The violence in the northeastern state has so far claimed the lives of over 120 people and displaced thousands.
