Gujarat Titans have named Shubman Gill as their captain for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This decision follows Hardik Pandya’s departure to Mumbai Indians (MI).
Gill, renowned for his exceptional batting skills, will steer a team comprising a well-balanced mix of experienced veterans and promising youngsters, embodying the essence of Gujarat Titans, as stated in an official press release.
With an impressive record of 1,373 runs in 33 innings, averaging 47.34, including three centuries and eight fifties, Gill’s stellar performance in the previous season further cemented his position. He clinched the Orange Cap by amassing an astounding 890 runs in 17 matches at an average of 59.33, showcasing three centuries and four half-centuries.
Expressing his excitement, Gill remarked, “I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket.”
In a concurrent development, Hardik Pandya has made a homecoming to his original franchise, Mumbai Indians, following a trade between the two teams. This tactical maneuver adds an intriguing dimension to the upcoming IPL season.
