Congress-Trinamool Split: TMC Accuses Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of Sabotaging INDIA Alliance

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee’s decision to go solo in Bengal and abandon the proposed INDIA alliance with the Congress has triggered a blame game between the two parties.

TMC spokesperson Derek O’Brien accused state Congress chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of being the reason for the alliance’s failure, citing his opposition to the bloc. O’Brien stated that if Congress performs well in the upcoming general elections, TMC might reconsider joining the anti-BJP front.

Sources within TMC labelled Chowdhury as the “gravedigger” of the alliance, accusing him of causing delays during seat-sharing negotiations. The party, which initially offered two seats to Congress in Bengal, claimed that the Congress demanded at least 10 seats, leading to an impasse.

Mamata Banerjee’s announcement came after talks hit a deadlock, prompting Congress to initiate damage control efforts. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh assured that a solution would be found, emphasizing the importance of the INDIA bloc with Mamata Banerjee.

Despite the public show of unity at INDIA meetings, Chowdhury’s criticism of Banerjee at the state level strained relations.

Rahul Gandhi, on his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Bengal, expressed optimism about resolving the issues and emphasized the INDIA bloc’s commitment to fighting injustice.
