19-Yr Old NEET Aspirant Ends Life in Kota, 1st Case of 2024 in Coaching Hub

Kota: A 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh, Mohammed Jaid, allegedly ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his hostel room in Kota on Tuesday.

His body was found in a hostel room in the New Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area of Kota. Kota Hostel Association has decided to blacklist the hostel as the victim’s room was not equipped with an anti-suicide device, which is part of the guidelines set up for hostels in this coaching hub in Rajasthan.

The association has decided to recommend the district administration to seize the hostel where the suicide occurred. Kota district authorities had ordered hostels to install a spring device on ceiling fans that foils suicide attempts.

Mohammed Jaid (19) from Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh was preparing for a second attempt at NEET at a coaching institute in Kota.

In 2023, the number of suicides by students was 26. Thousands of students from across India get admitted to coaching centres in Kota every year to prepare for medical and engineering entrance exams.
