Akshay Kumar’s ‘Mission Raniganj Jumps into Oscar 2024 race as Independent Entry

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Mission Raniganj’ may not have fared well at the box office, yet its makers have independently submitted the movie for the Oscars 2024.

Mission Raniganj’ is the real life story of an engineer played by Akshay Kumar, who saved 65 miners stuck inside a flooded coal mine in West Bengal’s Raniganj back in 1989.

The makers of the movie have submitted the film to the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences, the body responsible for awarding the Oscars.

But as it is an independent submission, ‘Mission Raniganj’ will not be eligible to compete for the Best Foreign Film Award.

It will compete in all other major award categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.

It also features Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan.

It was Tinu Suresh Desai’s second collaboration with Akshay after ‘Rustom’, the movie for which Akshay Kumar received his first National award.
