Covid Vaccine Enhances Effectivity of Throat Cancer Treatment

A new scientific study hints that Covid vaccines are able to enhance the effectiveness of throat cancer treatment. During past years these vaccines have protected humans against the deadly coronavirus. Now, these vaccines are showing up their extra benefit in the form of help in cancer treatment.

This startling new information about Covid vaccines came to the fore from the research by scientists at the Universities of Bonn and Shanxi. It was observed that anti-cancer drugs worked better in Covid vaccine vaccinated nasopharyngeal cancer patients in comparison to unvaccinated ones. Nasopharyngeal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the throat.

The team of researchers analysed the case history of 1537 nasopharyngeal cancer patients in China. Out of them, 373 had been vaccinated with the SinoVac Covid-19 vaccine. Astonishingly these patients responded significantly better to anti-PD-1 therapy than the unvaccinated patients. Added to it they also did not suffer severe side effects during anti-cancer treatment.

Many cancer cells subvert our immune response by affecting the PD-1 receptor immune cells. They stop our endogenous defense forces. If in some way PD-1 receptors can be blocked, then our immune system can fight cancer tumour cells more effectively.

Covid vaccines stimulate our immune system including the PD-1 receptor. It may be noted that coronavirus affects the upper respiratory tract, which is also the region of nasopharyngeal cancer.
