6 Labourers Electrocuted to Death as Pole Collapses on Overhead Wire in J’Khand

Dhanbad: Tragedy struck in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district as six labourers met a fatal electrocution when an electric pole they were erecting collapsed onto a high-tension overhead wire, according to railway officials.

The incident occurred near Nichitpur railway station, approximately 145 km away from Ranchi. These labourers were engaged under a small contractor who, reportedly, fled the scene following the incident.

Upon receiving information, Dhanbad divisional railway manager Kamal Kishore Sinha promptly rushed to the spot. The authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances leading to this unfortunate accident.

Eyewitnesses reported that eight individuals were working at the location without proper safety equipment and had failed to disconnect the power supply. The two survivors fled in a state of panic. Five of the deceased have been identified.

In the wake of the incident, train services on the grand chord line were temporarily halted at Dhanbad and Gomoh junctions. However, normal operations were restored after approximately ninety minutes, as stated by a railway official.
