President Biden Emphasizes Significance of US-India Friendship as One of the ‘Most Consequential’

New Delhi: The United States and India have signed several major deals during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic state visit to further strengthen their strategic technology partnership. President Joe Biden described the friendship between the two countries as one of the most consequential in the world, emphasizing that it is stronger, closer, and more dynamic than ever.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi held extensive discussions with President Biden and became the first Indian leader to address the joint session of the US Congress for the second time. The visit included various notable events such as a grand welcome ceremony, a state dinner, and a round table with technology leaders and CEOs.

President Biden tweeted about the significance of the US-India friendship, which was warmly acknowledged by Prime Minister Modi on Twitter. Modi emphasized that the friendship between the two countries contributes to global well-being, making the planet better and more sustainable. He expressed confidence that the ground covered during his visit would further strengthen their bond.

The White House highlighted the deep and close partnership between the US and India, affirming their shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific region. The leaders discussed expanding educational exchanges, people-to-people ties, and collaboration on common challenges like climate change, workforce development, and health security.

Several major deals were signed between India and the US, including a landmark pact between General Electric Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to jointly produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force’s Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Mk-II Tejas. The procurement of armed MQ-9B SeaGuardian drones from General Atomics will enhance India’s intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities.

India’s decision to join the Artemis Accords, advancing space exploration for the benefit of humankind, was hailed as a significant step in their space cooperation. Additionally, computer storage chip maker Micron announced a substantial investment of USD 2.75 billion to set up a semiconductor assembly and test plant in Gujarat. Google also pledged a USD 10 billion investment in India’s digitization fund.

The strategic technology partnership between the US and India is poised to bring about further advancements in defense, space, trade, and other key areas. The recent developments during Prime Minister Modi’s visit solidify the bond between the two nations, and their cooperation will contribute to a brighter future.
