26/11 Terror attack Accused Tahawwur Rana To be Extradited to India

A US court in California allowed the extradition of imprisoned Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana to India. Rana is an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attack.

In an order dated May 16, Judge Jacqueline Chooljian of the US District Court in the Central District of Los Angeles concluded that 62-year-old Rana is extraditable for the offences for which extradition has been requested. India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating Rana’s role in the 26/11 attacks carried out by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in 2008.

Rana was arrested in the US. Rana through his childhood friend Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley was involved with Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was providing cover to Headley to carry out terrorist activities.

The US government confirmed that Rana was part of the conspiracy and he committed the crime of commissioning a terrorist act.

A total of 166 people, including six Americans, were killed in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
