‘PFI Plot to Assassinate PM Modi’, NIA Raids in Karnataka

New Delhi: In relation to a conspiracy by the outlawed Popular Front of India (PFI) to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Patna in July 2022, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is conducting raids at multiple locations in Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday.

NIA has taken four suspects from Puttur, Kurnadka, Taripadpu, and Kumbra villages into custody for further investigation. The suspects have been identified as Mohammed Haris Kumbra, Sajjad Hussain Kodimbadi, Faizal Ahmed Tarigudde and Samshuddin Kurnadka.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), last year in its remand note against PFI member Shafeeque Payeth, had said that the PFI had conspired to target PM Modi during his visit to Patna on July 12, 2022. NIA officials are raiding 16 places, including Beltangadi, Puttur, Bantwala, Uppinangadi and Venura of Dakshina Kannada district. The raids are part of a probe into the plot of the banned organisation to attack PM Modi on July 12, 2022 at a rally in Bihar.

Five people were arrested in Patna for indulging in anti-national activities following raids in the Phulwari Sharif area last year in 2022. The raids also led to the recovery of several incriminating documents, including PFI’s ‘Mission 2047’ which allegedly had Prime Minister Narendra Modi on their radar.
