Blinded by Superstition: Attempt to Revive Dead Child by burying him in Salt in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: The dead never return back. But superstitious villagers tried to revive a dead minor boy in Gandheibindha village of Bhadrak district by burying his body in a pile of salt. Ironically this superstitious attempt was allegedly made on the premises of the Basudevpur Community Health Center (CHC), where the boy was declared dead.

As per reports, the boy had died of drowning. Doctors at the CHC declared him brought dead.

But his superstitious family desperately resorted to ‘salt therapy’ recommended to them by some relatives. They believed that a person who dies by drowning can be made alive if kept covered in salt for several hours. So, the boy’s body was covered in a heap of salt on the hospital premises without any avail.

Hospital authorities however denied any such act having taken place on the campus. Doctors at the hospital dismissed the act as a superstitious belief and added that no salt therapy had been carried out at the hospital.
