Your Toothache May Be A Heart Attack Warning

In a shocking incident, a man suddenly collapsed and died at a dental clinic in Rajasthan’s Barmer on November 5. Dilip Kumar Madani (61) was suffering from toothache. While waiting to meet the dentist he suddenly felt uneasy and fell to the ground. Although he was immediately rushed to a hospital, doctors were unable to save him. A video of the incident, captured on the CCTV of the clinic is making rounds on social media.

Medical experts say Madani’s toothache must have been the signal of possible cardiac arrest. It was not related to problems with his teeth or gums.

As per cardiologists, sudden severe pain in the tooth and jaw can be a signal of a forthcoming heart attack or any major heart and lung disease. So, it should not be taken lightly. Yet we should not be panicky about our toothache. All pains in the teeth are not related to cardiac or lungs problem.

The location of the vagus nerve in our body is the root cause of toothache during any heart and lung disease. This nerve connects our brain to key organs of the body including the heart and lungs. It is responsible for the regulation of heart rate and respiratory rate.

The Vagus nerve passes via the jaws alongside our teeth. So, any complication in the cardiac muscles or heart disease results in pain in the jaws and teeth. But such toothache triggered by cardiac problems is mostly accompanied by other symptoms like sweating, lightheadedness, or respiratory difficulties.
