Bhubaneswar’s Unit-II Market Building Shut for a Week Amidst Vendor Dispute

Bhubaneswar: The Market Building at Unit-II in Bhubaneswar has been closed for a week due to an ongoing dispute between makeshift and permanent vendors. The traders have downed their shutters in protest against the alleged inaction of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in resolving the issue.

The Market Building Traders’ Association has accused the makeshift vendors of encroachment and has been demanding their eviction. They claim that the street vendors are contributing to the overcrowding of the market area and diminishing its beauty. The association had previously urged the BMC to take necessary action, but no steps were taken, leading them to close the market building indefinitely.

The BMC has not taken any action to resolve the issue despite the Market Building being closed for a week. However, BMC sources state that they need to consult with legal authorities before taking any action, and this process might be time-consuming.

The closure of the market building has caused inconvenience to the public, as they depend on the various shops within the premises to buy essential items. Customers have expressed frustration and helplessness, as they are left with no alternative but to return empty-handed during this period of closure.
