Bhubaneswar: In a bid to prevent cybercrimes and for digital safety in the state, Vodafone Idea Odisha collaborated with the Commissionerate Police and the Department of Telecommunication Odisha LSA on Friday.
Speaking at a presser, Commissioner of police Saumendra Priyadarshi urged the department of telecommunications to take adequate safety and stringent measures to prevent the use of pre-activated SIMs by telecom firms.
“It is a matter of concern that thousands of pre-activated SIM cards are being sold illegally. Cybercriminals use pre-activated SIMs to commit fraud. To jack up sales and checkmate their competitors, many telecom companies have been illegally promoting the circulation of pre-activated SIMs,” additional commissioner of police Uma Shankar Dash said.
