Odisha CM Launches LaccMI Bus Yojana in Kalahandi, Renames Kalahandi University

Kalahandi: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik introduced the LaccMI (Location Accessible Multimodal Initiative) Bus Scheme, known as Laxmi bus yojana, in Kalahandi district on Kalahandi Foundation Day. He announced that 63 buses would serve all panchayats in the district, with a plan to expand to 1,000 buses statewide. This initiative aims to enhance local transport, boost tourism, and stimulate the regional economy.

During the launch event at Kalahandi University campus, the Chief Minister renamed the university as Ma Manikeshwari University. He emphasized the positive impact of the Laxmi bus scheme on local development and revealed significant infrastructure investments in the district.

Patnaik mentioned that the scheme was initiated after recognizing the need for improved transportation in villages. The buses are expected to cater to various mobility needs, such as transporting children to schools, connecting farmers to markets, and aiding mothers in daily activities.

He praised the development progress in Kalahandi, highlighting advancements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, industry, and agriculture. The Chief Minister also acknowledged the role of the Indravati Project in Kalahandi’s development and announced the Nabin Odisha program’s extension to the region, benefiting local panchayats.

Additionally, Patnaik inaugurated the Shaheed Rando Majhi Medical College in Kalahandi and paid tribute to Majhi’s memory. The Minister of Water Resources and Commerce and Transport, Tukuni Sahu, commended the historic significance of the Laxmi Yojana in bringing modern bus transport to panchayats that previously lacked such facilities.

The 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman VK Pandian, along with other political leaders, lauded the Chief Minister’s strong leadership and vision for Odisha’s development. This marks a significant milestone in Kalahandi’s journey towards progress, with continued cooperation anticipated for future development endeavours.
