Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital Inaugurated in Kalahandi

Bhubaneswar: Saheed Rendo Majhi Medical College and Hospital (MCH) in Bhawanipatna of Odisha’s Kalahandi district was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister of State (Health & Family Welfare) S P Baghel on Wednesday. With this, the number of government medical colleges and hospitals in the state reached 11.

Baghel attended the inauguration function via video conferencing.

Odisha Health Minister Niranjan Pujari and Kalahandi MP Basanta Panda were also present during the occasion.

Built at an investment of Rs 531 crore, this new MCH is established over an area of 43 acres. According to the State Health Secretary Shalini Pandit, this new MCH has 22 departments with 49 teaching faculty and 38 senior residents and tutors.

The first batch of 100 MBBS students admitted to the college in the academic year 2023-2024 were also present during the inauguration ceremony. They included 41 students from Odisha and the rest are from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, West Bengal.

In 2020, the Central government had approved the establishment of this medical college & hospital in the Kalahandi district. Odisha government named it after Rendo Majhi, a noted tribal leader and freedom fighter from the Kalahandi region.
