New Delhi: Odia IPS officer Rashmi Ranjan Swain took charge as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. He became the 17th DGP of J&K Police.
Swain hails from Rourkela. He is a 1991 batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IPS. Former DGP of J&K Police, Dilbag Singh retired from service on Tuesday.
In the past, Swain has served in J&K as Superintendent of Police in Ramban, Kargil, Poonch, as SSP, Kathua, Srinagar, and Jammu. He was later AIG, Police HQs and DIG, Anti-Corruption Organisation. In 2006, he went on central deputation. In June 2020 he was posted as head of CID in J&K.
