Rs 5.62 Cr Worth Diamonds Stolen from Mumbai Gem Store, 2 Employees Arrested

Mumbai: Three persons including two employees of a gemstone company were arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly stealing diamonds worth Rs 5.62 crore over six months.

This major theft came to the fore when Sanjay Shah, one of the directors of JB and Brothers Private Limited, who has a store at the Bharat Diamond Bourse in Bandra-Kurla Complex of Mumbai, registered a complaint alleging that diamonds worth Rs 5.62 crore were missing from their stock.

Basing on the complainant’s suspicion, police started an investigation and arrested the firm’s employees, Prashant Shah and Vishal Shah. They were found to be stealing diamonds from their store since April with the help of a former employee of the store, Nilesh Shah. Nilesh was facilitating the sale of the stolen diamonds.

The arrested trio was booked under relevant sections of the IPC, including 420 (cheating).
