Former Odisha MLA Ramamurthy Gomango Granted Bail in Wife’s 1995 Murder Case

Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Friday granted bail to former Gunupur MLA Ramamurthy Gomango, who had been convicted in the brutal murder case of his wife dating back to 1995. The local court in Bhubaneswar had sentenced him to life imprisonment under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after finding him guilty.

The incident involving Gomango came to light on August 29, 1995, when his wife Sashirekha’s lifeless body was discovered at their residence (Qr. No.-DS-18/1) in the MLA Colony. Initially treated as an unnatural death, the Kharavel Nagar Police Station later escalated it to a murder case under Sections 302 (punishment for murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC.

The case took an unexpected turn nearly three decades later when the Additional District Judge (ADJ-III) Court, responsible for MLA and MP cases, found Ramamurthy Gomango guilty of brutally killing his wife, who was approximately 5-months pregnant at the time. The court awarded him life imprisonment for the crime.

Challenging the court’s decision, Gomango took his case to the High Court, which granted him bail today. This development marks a significant relief for the former legislator from the Gunupur Assembly Constituency, allowing him to be released from custody while he continues to navigate the legal process.
