King Powers Jamaica Tallawahs To Their Third CPL Title

Guyana: The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) came to a close on Friday after Jamaica Tallawahs beat Barbados Royals by 8 wickets to become the champions for the third time, after having previously won the tournament in 2013 and 2016.

Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers gave the Barbados Royals, who had won the toss and decided to bat, a flying start by raking up 63 runs inside the powerplay before Fabian Allan removed both the openers to get the Tallawahs back in the game. Azam Khan continued his impressive batting form and took the Royals to a defendable 161/7.

In response, the bowling attack of the Royals was stymied by an 86-run stand between Brandon King and Shamarh Brooks. King led the charge of the chase despite Brooks’ dismissal, scoring a stunning 83 off just 50 balls to help the Tallawahs win their third CPL title.

Although the Jamaica Tallawahs suffered an early setback after opener Kennar Lewis was dismissed for a duck, King and Brooks held their nerves to get the inning back on track. King took on the burden of accomplishing the chase after Brooks lost his wicket in the eleventh over. Launching a total of eleven boundaries, King ultimately scored a six to lead his team to victory, igniting joy among the Jamaica Tallawahs supporters, players, and support-staff.
