3 Kuki Tribals Killed by Armed Miscreants in Manipur

Imphal: Three members of the Kuki tribal community were shot dead by armed miscreants in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on Friday morning.

This violent incident occurred at around 4:30 am at Thouwai Kuki village.

According to police sources, a group of armed miscreants approached the village from the hills and started firing at village guards. Three people from the village were killed.

On August 5, three Meiteis and two Kukis were killed in separate incidents of shooting between the two communities at Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.

Ethnic clashes continue in Manipur since May 3 after Kuki groups called for protests against a proposal to grant scheduled tribe (ST) status to the Meitei community.

The clashes have claimed over 160 lives and displaced around 50,000.
