5 Poachers Arrested from Similipal Tiger Reserve, Weapons & Antlers Seized

Baripada: A group of five poachers were arrested from Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve during a joint operation by Forest department officials, Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF), Joint Task Force (JTF) and local police on Thursday.

Trap nets, two bows, 23 arrows, one axe, two billhooks, one knife, a plastic snare, one antler of a Sambar and two antlers of spotted deer were seized from the possession of the arrested poachers.

The arrested persons were identified as Salkhan Hembram (20), Lal Mohan Hansda (32), Balram Soren (44), Madhusudan Murmu (32) and Birsingh Hembram (25).

They had illegally entered into the core area (TL-3) of the Similipal Wildlife Sanctuary.
