Biker Electrocuted by Hanging 33 KV Wire, Angry Locals Block Puri-Konark Road

Puri: A biker was electrocuted to death when he came in contact with a 33KV live wire hanging from an electric pole near the Chandrabhaga Helipad Square on Puri-Konark Road on Tuesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Chandrabhaga Traders’ Association President Bhaskar Behera. Behera met with the accident while he was travelling to his hotel from his home on his bike.

Behera’s death sparked tension as locals blocked the Puri-Konark Road to protest. The protesters alleged that their repeated requests to the Energy Department to shift the electric poles from the proximity of the busy road have not been heeded.

Due to the road blockade, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Konark-Chandrabhaga Road. Personnel of the Chandrabhaga police station, Ramchandi police station and Konark police station reached the spot to pacify the protestors.
