Cyber Fraudster Conning Through Matrimonial Site Arrested

Bhubaneswar: A cyber fraudster identified as Nrusingha Pradhan was arrested by the Commissionerate Police for online fraud through a matrimonial website.

He could be nabbed when a victim registered a complaint against him.

According to police sources, Pradhan had opened an account on Bharat Matrimony website in the name of his wife Deepa along with some fake profile pictures.

When a youth became interested, Pradhan started chatting with him posing as a woman. He at first lured the youth into his clutches and then started requesting for money citing financial hardships and health problems.

The gullible youth fell in the trap and transferred money to Pradhan thrice through Gpay. But despite several requests the youth could not meet the said the girl with whom he was communicating via the matrimonial website. He became suspicious and filed a complaint with the Cyber Police.

Investigation revealed that Pradhan was impersonating his wife and duping people through fake matrimonial website profiles to extort money.

A SIM card and ATM card along with Rs 1.61 lakh cash were seized from the possession of the arrested accused. Commissionerate police have written to the Bharat Matrimony website team for more information as it is suspected that Pradhan may have similarly cheated several others.
